DELANO, Minnesota (KARE) As the sun rose over the city of Delano Monday residents stopped by to gawk at the overflowing Crow River, lapping just just inches away from the sidewalk on River Street.
‘It is extremely high now,” said Larry Bartels, a former city council member and life-long Delano resident.
“It is interesting and it’s inconvenient for those in the lower parts of town, lots of basements flooding, lots of backyards flooding. It’s a hassle,” said Bartels, who said he lives by the river.
Throughout the early morning hours, public works crews monitored the temporary dikes and pumping stations that were placed along downtown Delano. The rising waters were inches away from covering Bridge Avenue, which was closed to traffic.
