Westover commander leaving for job at Pentagon

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – The commander of the 439th Airlift Wing at Westover Air Reserve Base will soon be leaving western Massachusetts for a job at the Pentagon.

Starting in September, Brigadier General Steven Vautrain will be assigned to be deputy director of strategic planning for the Air Force.

Vautrain had been Wing Commander at Westover since August of 2011, and was promoted to the rank of brigadier general in September.

According to an Air Force news release sent to 22News, Col. Albert Lupenski will take Vautrain’s place at Westover. Lupenski is currently the commander of the 932nd Airlift Wing at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois.
