SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Residents in Springfield have been complaining of foul odors coming from Bondis Island.
Bondis Island is a water treatment plant located in the Connecticut River between Agawam and Springfield. The plant handles the waste of a large part of western Massachusetts.
Springfield resident, Rolland Joley, told 22News when the wind picked up from the west this weekend, the odor was overpowering.
“This was not the sewage part, this was definitely fumes in the air,” said Joley. “It was like standing in the back of a diesel truck; it was that bad. My wife and even my next door neighbor had to close their windows.”
An employee of the Springfield water and sewer commission told 22News that there was nothing out of the ordinary this weekend that would cause the odor.
