A new era for community television

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield’s community access channel has a new home in a busy Springfield intersection.

Focus Springfield Community Television officially opened it’s doors Monday at its new location at 1200 Main Street; on the corner of Main and State Streets.

Monday’s grand opening event allowed people to check out the new studio that’s equipped with state-of-the-art editing and broadcasting technology. It will give students and residents a place to learn about broadcast television and produce community television.

Executive Director John Abbott told 22News that he hopes it also helps revive the area.

“We built this studio in the heart of downtown Springfield so we could enliven the area, bring some life into this once dark corner, and also to begin to tell a positive story about what’s going on in Springfield,” Abbott said.

He told 22News that public access gives residents a place to watch things like public meetings and local athletic competitions.
