Mutton and Mead Medieval Festival held this weekend

MONTAGUE, Mass. (WWLP) – The sights and sounds of merry old England in Robin Hood’s day came alive Sunday in the Franklin County community of Montague.

The 4th annual Mutton and Mead Medieval Festival looked like a scene out of the classic adventure “Ivanhoe”.

Western Massachusetts families flocked to the ageless festival to experience Western civilization as it might have looked more than one thousand years ago.

“This is our second time and we loved it so much we wanted to come back and I like learning about the history of the period,” said Madeleine Charney of Amherst.

“We thought the fantasy element would really be a blast for this guy or terrifying I don’t know,” said Addison MacDonald of Northampton.

There was even a clothing boutique carrying the Sherwood Forest fashions of the day could be had by the current generation of jousters.

As for food vendors, hot dogs and burgers were replaced by turkey legs and roasted lamb, just like in the olden days.
