SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Families living in Springfield’s McKnight neighborhood Saturday afternoon re-affirmed their good neighbor policy.
The people living in this historic community joined together for their seventh annual block party at Thompson Triangle Park. Besides the burgers and hot dogs, there were a lot of other things going on that made people feel a sense of community togetherness.
“Because when people talk about public safety, the first thing is you’ve got to be safe, but unfortunately a lot of times people close themselves and people move out, they don’t know who their neighbors are anymore,” said Walter Kroll, a McKnight resident.
Debra Albury, another McKnight resident, told 22News, “I moved here from Boston 12 years ago. I brought my family, I moved here because it’s a community of trees and trees are living things.”
Others called attention to the youth violence that’s taken four young lives since the first of the year.
