BELCHERTOWN, Mass. (WWLP) – From six o’clock Friday night until noon Saturday, Relay For Life teams in the Quaboag Valley raised $100,000 for cancer research.
They were still going strong at the Belchertown High School athletic field when 22News dropped by Saturday morning.
Many of the teams had been on their feet all night. One particular team didn’t walk when they could run instead to raise the cancer fighting dollars.
“We’re a team made up of runners. We have a cancer survivor on our team, we rally behind her and we raise money and we ran all through the night to fight cancer,” said Mary Howell of Belchertown.
“I have a team for my daughter, Lynn, who lives in Virginia and who was diagnosed in December with stage three uterine cancer,” said Eleanore Gray of Belchertown.
The Relay for Life walk in Belchertown is the final such event this year in Western Massachusetts.
All told these Relay for Life walks raised many hundreds of thousands of dollars to help the lifesaving work of the American Cancer Society.
