HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – The city of Holyoke threw a party to commemorate the summer solstice. The solstice, which is Saturday, June 21, signals the longest day of the year.
On Saturday night at Holyoke’s Heritage Park, they marked the occasion with music, dancing, food, arts, crafts and games and merry-go-round rides. The event was called La Noche de San Juan and it was highlighted at night with a lantern parade to light up the night.
People told 22News the night’s celebration reminded them of being back in Puerto Rico.
“Oh it’s awesome,” said Birgenmina Perez of Holyoke. “We always want this event to stay here with us. It reminds us of when we were in Puerto Rico.”
Destiny Rios of Holyoke told 22News, “I’m having fun here. I’m with my sister and my parents and I’m eating some Puerto Rican food and all that.”
This was Holyoke’s 5th annual La Noche de San Juan.
