GRANVILLE, Mass. (WWLP) – On Saturday night, some scholarships were handed out to area students looking to further their education.
It was the 40th year of the Granville-Tolland Dollars for Scholars. A gala celebration was held in Granville.
The scholarships are awarded based upon financial need, academic performance and community service.
22News talked to some of this year’s recipients about what it means to get a financial boost.
Jesse Gregg of Granville told 22News, “It benefits me a lot. I know that my parents are having troubles paying for college so any sort of help I can get is great. The less loans I have to take out, the better.”
Maggie Pratt of Granville said, “It has helped me be able to relax during my school year and be able to focus on my studies instead of having to take on extra jobs.”
Since 1974, the Granville-Tolland Dollars for Scholars has been awarding annual scholarships to undergraduate students who are residents of Tolland or Granville. They’ve awarded more than 300 scholarships totaling more than $700,000 in awards.
