WMass has yet to reach 90 degrees this year

Last year we hit 91 degrees on May 21st

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – It was a beautiful day at Forest Park in Springfield on Friday with lots of sunshine, comfortable temperatures and low levels of humidity. People were definitely taking advantage of the great weather.

Even though summer officially arrives Saturday morning, it hasn’t been all that hot yet this year.

In fact we haven’t officially made it to 90 degrees at Westover ARB in Chicopee. The last time we made it above 90 degrees was back on September 11th of last year.

Last year we hit 91 degrees on May 21st and had our first heat wave from June 23rd through June 25th with temperatures in the 90s.

The summer solstice will arrive at 6:51 Saturday morning. It’s when we experience the longest period of daylight of the year and it’s also when the midday sun is at its highest point in the sky.

Now that summer is about to officially arrive a lot of people are looking forward to sunshine and warmer temperatures.

Tamara Blake of Springfield told 22News, “I love the heat, I love the humidity; I don’t like the cold so I’m very much looking forward to the warm weather.”

Joseph Gelin of East Longmeadow said, “I’m going to be playing around with my friends and stuff going outside obviously riding my bike I’m obviously looking forward to the warm weather because it’s been a really, really cold winter.”

“Yeah I hope for at least two more months of good weather we had enough of cold weather and snow now it’s time to have fun,” said Roberto Zeno of Springfield.

Some people were having fun at the water park already.
