Cross-dressing bank robber sentenced in Maine

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — A Massachusetts man who robbed a Maine bank dressed as a woman and later exploited a jail security lapse to have a tryst with a female inmate has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.

The sentence was imposed Friday on 35-year-old Michel D’Angelo of Middleboro, Massachusetts, who pleaded guilty to a federal charge of bank robbery.

The Portland Press Herald reported that D’Angelo was dressed in a women’s clothes and wearing a wig when he robbed a Berwick bank in 2012.

After his arrest, he slipped out of his cell to have a sex with a female inmate after corrections officers at the Cumberland County Jail left a pair of doors unlocked, allowing D’Angelo to sneak into the female wing. Neither inmate faces criminal charges for their encounter.
