SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – On Thursday, Pope Francis named Bishop Mitchell Thomas Rozanski as the new leader of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Springfield.

Rozanski is currently an auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Baltimore, and at 55 years old, is more than 20 years younger than the man he is replacing; Springfield Bishop Timothy McDonnell.

22News spoke Thursday morning with Mark Dupont, the spokesperson for the Diocese of Springfield about the legacy of Bishop McDonnell, and how the selection of Bishop Rozanski marks a significant moment for this diocese.
