CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – As copper thefts continue to rise, utility companies are now becoming targets.
People who live on Pennsylvania Avenue in Chicopee contacted 22News after noticing the grounding wire on their utility poles had been cut.
22News called Chicopee Electric Light about the issue and spokesman Jim Lisowski told us it’s a problem happening across the country.
Nearby resident Patricia Wojciak says she is concerned about the safety of her neighbors.
“It makes me really nervous because there are babies here, and you know, my neighbor noticed it and I walked by and noticed it. They must be coming out at night cutting the wires and its kind of scary people are wandering around at night,” Wojciak said.
Lisowski said that the utility company would be out to investigate the neighborhood.
