Massachusetts pushing to expand use of electric cars

(WWLP) Massachusetts drivers buying or leasing new electric cars can begin applying for rebates from the state worth up to $2,500.

State officials say the $2 million program will let electric car owners or lease-holders receive a rebate on cars bought on or after Wednesday.

Rebates are available on a first-come, first-served basis until all funds are used up. All applications must be submitted within three months of the purchase or lease of an electric vehicle.

The state is also accepting applications for a second program aimed at increasing the number of electric cars on Massachusetts roads.

Under that program, the state will provide half of the funding needed for charging station hardware costs — up to $25,000 — to encourage employers to install Level 1 and Level 2 charging stations.
