Sullivan reflecting on new job as Chief of Staff

BOSTON (WWLP) - From Westfield’s mayor for thirteen years to Governor Deval Patrick’s right-hand man, it’s now Rick Sullivan’s second week as the governor’s new Chief of Staff.

Prior to accepting the new position, Sullivan was the Secretary of Energy and Environmental Affairs and would have to report to the Chief of Staff everyday.

He said this new job gives him greater perspective, understanding, and a whole lot more responsibilities.

“A lot of brand new issues that I have not worked on from day one so there’s a huge learning curve, but it’s a great opportunity, it’s exciting, and the days are not dull,” said Sullivan.

As Chief of Staff, Sullivan has to brief the Governor on every single issue and communicate between cabinet members. Sullivan will be Governor Patrick’s Chief of Staff until his term ends in January.
