(NBC News) A key suspect in the 2012 attack on the American consulate in Benghazi, Libya has been captured and is in U.S. custody.
The Pentagon says Ahmed Abu Khatallah was captured by the U.S. military on Sunday.
“It’s important for us to send a message to the world that when Americans are attacked, no matter how long it takes, we will find and bring those to justice,” President Obama said.
Khatallah is the first alleged perpetrator of the Benghazi attacks, which left Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans dead, apprehended by the United States.
