Armored truck robbed in West Springfield

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – An armored truck worker delivering cash to an ATM was sprayed in the face with chemicals and robbed Tuesday morning in West Springfield.

West Springfield Police Captain Thomas Wilkinson told 22News that the Armored Truck was making a cash delivery to an ATM at 735 Westfield Street at 8:34 a.m. Tuesday, when a masked man sprayed the man with a chemical agent as he inserted the key in the door to the ATM.

Captain Wilkinson said the armored truck employee was blinded by the chemical, and the robber grabbed a bag filled with cash and ran away.

The crime took place in the parking lot of a convenience store gas station. The employee was not seriously hurt.

Captain Wilkinson said police are looking for the suspect, an African American man who was wearing a bandanna covering part of his face.
