Many schools pushing back summer vacation

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – The official start of summer is only about a week away and many school kids in western Massachusetts will be spending the very beginning of summer in class.

The snow we had this past winter forced many schools to cancel classes a number of times.

Most schools have 5 snow days built into their calendar and a lot of those schools ended up using them all. Kids in Agawam will be in school until the end of the month.

Agawam School Superintendent William Sapelli told 22News, “Let’s face it, it can’t get much later than this. We have to be out by July 1 and we’re getting out in Agawam on the 26th and I think there are other districts that are going up until the 26th those that started after Labor Day like we did.”

Some schools that started classes before Labor Day will be getting out next week.
