Bill would prevent the SATs being scheduled on game days

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (WWLP) – South Hadley State Rep. John Scibak has filed legislation that would prohibit high school athletic games from being scheduled at the same time as college entrance exams.

Scibak filed the bill after players from Hopkins Academy in Hadley and Turners Falls had to choose between playing their championship baseball games or taking the SAT test last Saturday.

He told 22News students should not have to make a decision between athletics and academics. “It is simply unfair and unreasonable for a high school junior or senior even to make a decision, do I play in the championship or do I take the test?”

A spokesman for the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association said athletic staff, parents and students discuss the potential for an overlap of games and the test every season and normally do not receive complaints.
