Police Sgt. John Delaney told 22News that Jeffrey McCarthy, 48, and Raymond Ocasio, 24, both of Springfield, face breaking and entering and larceny charges following their arrest early Thursday morning.

According to Delaney, shortly after 1:15 A.M., a patrolling police officer was checking the rear of the Lowe’s store, when he saw two men and a pick-up truck parked near the tractor trailers. Delaney says the officer noticed the pickup truck was filled with metal duct work, three air conditioners, one portable air conditioner, and a microwave oven.

Delaney explained that the items came from a tractor trailer marked “store returned,” and were expected to be shipped to a wholesaler.

McCarthy and Ocasio told the officer that the manager of the store gave them permission to take the items, but the officer was skeptical, Delaney said.

A short time later, the nighttime manager was found, who told police that McCarthy and Ocasio were lying. The two men were then arrested.

The pickup truck has been impounded as police look into other break-ins in the area.
