Watson wins election to Monson Town Clerk

MONSON, Mass. (WWLP) – Monson voters decided to take the “acting” prefix from the title of acting town clerk Mary-Frances Watson Tuesday, and make her the official town clerk.

Watson will be likely be sworn in to the position of Monson Town Clerk  Wednesday.  She beat her only opponent in the only contested race on the Monson town ballot Tuesday.  Watson received 581 votes to her opponent Valerieann Bogascz-Beaudoin’s 184 votes.

Watson told 22News that the Ware town clerk oversaw this election to avoid any appearance of conflict in her candidacy.

Watson became acting town clerk in November when her predecessor, Nancy Morrell retired.

Watson told 22News that 769 of Monson’s 5,613 registered voters cast ballots Tuesday, a little less than 14% voter turnout
