Two people arrested for stealing nearly 30 mailboxes

GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Two people have been arrested in connection with the theft and destruction of nearly 30 mailboxes in Franklin County.

Greenfield Police said Sean Bittner, 19, and Joshua Acus, 18, both of Greenfield, have been charged with larceny under $250, malicious destruction of property, disorderly conduct, and trespass with a motor vehicle.  Greenfield Police said the men admitted to stealing and damaging 29 mailboxes in Greenfield and Deerfield, as well as smashing a window to an excavator.

Officers were able to track down the suspects after finding a receipt for a local drive-thru business.  According to police, video surveillance showed the suspected vehicle.  Police tracked down the car and questioned the the two men who reportedly admit to their involvement in the thefts.

The 29 mailboxes were found under the Wisdom Way overpass on I-91 in Greenfield Monday morning.
The mailboxes had been stolen from Upper Road and Lower Road in Deerfield and Wisdom Way and Munson St in Greenfield overnight.

Greenfield Police also said additional charges may be sought by the Deerfield Police Department, the Massachusetts State Police, or the United States Postal Service.
