SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A meeting was held in Springfield Tuesday night to figure out how to help residents pay for mandated home repairs in the McKnight neighborhood.
The meeting was held at the Rebecca Johnson School at 6:00 p.m.
Some residents say the repairs they legally have to make are expensive, and the City of Springfield didn’t give them enough time to be able to afford them.
Andrea Garde of Springfield told 22News, “My greatest fear is that I’m just not able to get any information that would make us feel comfortable about how those who cannot afford to hire anyone will be handling their waste.”
According to one resident at Tuesday night’s meeting, they were given a 30 day window to do repairs.
Springfield’s code enforcement inspectors are now trying to work with residents to create a solution.
