SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Not many people expect to sail through the lines at the RMV. But Springfield area drivers were extra frustrated Tuesday morning because of an online mix-up.
The Registry of Motor Vehicles in Springfield will have a new address this fall; a hopeful solution to long wait times that left the line of customers waiting outside this winter. The weather may be more bearable this time of year, but drivers told 22News the fix is too little too late.
“They’re not keeping up with the growing population. An expansion should have been done years ago. Everyone doesn’t have a computer. Everyone is not computer literate. They should take that into consideration,” said Helen Graves from Chicopee.
Graves and her daughter waited more than two hours for a photo ID Monday. They returned Tuesday morning to wait for a learner’s permit, and found people were already upset before the doors opened.
Drivers who showed up at this Springfield branch Tuesday morning at 8 were frustrated to find out it wasn’t open yet. While the Mass RMV page has the correct time of 9AM, a Google search result before you click the page says it opens at 8.
22News spoke with another Springfield driver who took the day off from work, hoping third time would be a charm for renewing his registration.
“I was here on Friday early in the morning, 830. I was here an hour and a half. I came back yesterday and was here two hours. That’s why I took a day off,” said Timmy Thai from Springfield.
This fall the Springfield branch will relocate from 165 Liberty Street to approximately 36 Martone Place, which will offer more parking and an EZ Pass Center.
