Greenfield Town Council President loses to challenger

Greenfield, Mass. (WWLP) – Greenfield Precinct 7 Town Councilor At-Large and Town Council President Mark Wisnewski lost his seat to challenger Isaac James Mass in Greenfield’s town elections Tuesday.

Greenfield assistant town clerk Gail Zukowski told 22News that Mass beat the council president by a more than 300-vote margin.  Mass garnered 1,720 votes to Wisnewski’s 1,414.  Mass takes his seat on the council July 1st.

A very close election in the race for town councilor in Greenfield’s Precinct 5.  Penny Ricketts won by five votes.  Ricketts beat Robert Wainstein 236 votes to 231.  Zukowski told 22News she did not know if Wainstein intended to challenge the vote count.

In a binding ballot question, Greenfield voters approved an extension of elected terms of office from three years to four years for the mayor, town councilors and the school committee.

The extended terms will be in effect for elections in 2015, according to Zukowski.
