SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Hackers can steal personal information from your phone and your computer, but what about your car?
If technology develops to the point where cars can communicate with each other on a cellular network, some cybersecurity experts warn, that network could be vulnerable to hack attacks.
But Balise Toyota Sales Consultant Nelson Martins told 22News drivers have no reason to panic. The chance of someone breaking into that kind of complex system is incredibly small.
Martins said, “A lot of things can be hacked, but is it really going to happen? I don’t think so. The developers of these technologies, they are aware of these conditions and they are going to prepare themselves.”
Right now newer cars have a sensor that can detect when you get too close to a car in front of you and apply the brakes before you do, but that is not on a cellular network.
