HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – People with painted bricks flocked to Race Street in Holyoke on Saturday for a race.
It was the 4th annual Great Holyoke Brick Race. Organizers say its the only race of its kind in the country.
The Brick Race was the brainchild of two artists who were inspired by power tools races in other parts of the country. Instead of power tools, they thought of bricks.
So for years know people of all ages have come up with elaborate and creative ways to soup-up your standard red brick to transform it into a speedster.
Co-founder of the Brick Race Bruce Fowler told 22News, “I’ve seen the planets. I’ve seen the empire state building that someone had one year.”
“It’s a really fun way to use your creativity for something that make no sense at all,” said co-founder Dean Nimmer.
It wasn’t all about speed. People were also awarded for having the most creatively designed brick.
