LUDLOW, Mass. (WWLP) – Ludlow children ran in the rain on Thursday to help a one-year-old with cancer.
Veterans Park Elementary School fourth and fifth graders ran in honor of Avery McAvoy. The little girl has been diagnosed with a childhood cancer called Neuroblastoma.
Teachers told 22News the kids participating in the “Action for Avery Run” learn some important life lessons.
“It definitely makes them better people. It gives them through the empathy they need to have for their fellow people, and their fellow students and other kids,” said Susan Egan.
Avery McAvoy’s dad is the Ludlow High School band director. He’s asked that money raised on his daughter’s behalf go directly to Baystate Children’s Hospital.
