Hadley first grader honored for saving grandmother’s life

HADLEY, Mass. (WWLP) – 7-year-old Nevan Costigan is the most admired first grader at Hadley Elementary School.

Nevan’s been honored for saving his grandmother’s life. When she suffered a seizure one night last month, Nevan called 911, just as he had learned as a pre-schooler, what to do in an emergency.

“She was shaking and she was sweating, and she wasn’t talking that much,” said Nevan.

“He was so calm and humble, he wasn’t panicking he just picked up by cell phone and dialed 911,” said Debbie Leibl, Nevan’s grandmother.

Not only is Nevan admired by his teacher and principal, but he’s been honored by the Hadley Police and Fire Departments.
