GM cleans house

(NBC News) General Motors has fired 15 people following an internal investigation into the delayed recall of faulty ignition switches that led to at least 13 deaths.

The much anticipated probe blamed incompetence and neglect, not a company cover-up for the problem.

Surrounded by GM employees Thursday, the company’s CEO described a history of failures she says led the company to wait more than ten years before recalling millions of cars with bad ignition switches that caused some to suddenly stall.

“We simply didn’t do our job, we failed these customers,” Mary Barra said.

GM is hoping to repair all of the cars it has recalled by October. It’s also beginning a victim compensation program.
