Old Town Hall in Easthampton to be renovated

EASTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – Since Easthampton City Officials were moved from the old Town Hall, the building has been in rough shape. 22News found out how it’s being re-purposed.

The building is now used by CitySpace, Inc., as a sort of art gallery to promote local artists and attract tourists to Easthampton.

State Senator Don Humason presented a grant check for $133,000 from the state Monday to help the group renovate the building.

CitySpace rents the building from the city and hopes to make money by renting out the building’s upstairs banquet hall for functions, as well as rooms for artists to showcase their work.

First, they said, it needs to look appealing on the inside. “…Connect the two floors,” says Ed Check of CitySpace, Inc.

Sen. Humason said, “Come visit, we want them to invest and spend money here and that is what the grant is helping to do.”

Part of the downstairs has already been renovated with new floors. Sen. Humason said he’s found that investing in cultural tourism will make money for towns, cities and the state.
