Raising money to help fight hunger in WMass

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – To out run hunger was the theme and the goal of a five mile walk and run Sunday at the Springfield Jewish Community Center.

Hundreds of mostly young people took part in the fundraiser targeting the problem of children going hungry.

Many belong to the teenager arm of Rachel’s Table, the volunteer group that helps provide food for the agencies that help feed hungry people in Western Massachusetts.

Julianna Campbell of Springfield describes herself as a fervent supporter.

“I love the community here, I love the people here. Most Importantly I love knowing that I’m helping someone, that I’m doing something good for the community,” said Julianna Campbell of Springfield.

They’re helping an estimated 34,000 hungry children here in western Massachusetts. It’s said that nearly half the school age children in Springfield don’t know where their next meal is coming from.
