Hundreds attend asparagus festival in Hadley

HADLEY, Mass. (WWLP) – Hundreds and hundreds of people filled the Hadley town common Sunday to enjoy their favorite vegetable…asparagus.

The Asparagus festival, in the asparagus capital of Western Massachusetts, featured a menu of the vegetable prepared in its many forms. Nancy Bradbury of Easthampton prefers her favorite, roasted garlic asparagus.

“Well I know this is Hadley, a big, huge asparagus place. I’ve lived here for a long time and I’ve eaten a lot of asparagus this time of year.”

Wally Czajkowski, a Hadley asparagus farmer, told 22News “It grows very well in our soil. We have that perfect climate for asparagus. We have a long cold winter and then we have a nice warm spring, or we should be having a nice warm spring”.

More than one farm in the town of Hadley grows Asparagus.
