There are thousands of weather spotters in the Northeast

EAST LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) – The National Weather Service held a “Skywarn” Spotter Training Seminar Thursday night at the East Longmeadow High School.

This network of trained volunteers is a crucial part of the mix in preparing for severe weather, and recognizing threatening clouds.

Glenn Field, a National Weather Service Meteorologist, told 22News, “We also need weather spotters on the ground to confirm what we’re seeing on radar, and make us more confident as we issue a warning.”

There are 6,000 trained weather spotters in the Northeast, but they’re always looking for more.
