Woman rescued after fall on Mt. Holyoke trail

HADLEY, Mass. (WWLP) – A woman who fell about 100 feet down a trail on Mount Holyoke (Skinner Mountain) is now safe, following a rescue operation by several local police and fire departments.

skinner mountain rescueHadley Fire Chief Michael Spanknebel told 22News that they received a call from the woman around 8:18, saying that she had fallen on the Halfway Trail and rolled down the hill about 100 feet. She did not complain of any injuries, but she said that she was off the trail, and could not get back on.

Police from several departments, including Hadley, South Hadley, Chicopee, Northampton, and Amherst, as well as State Police, firefighters, and a regional technical rescue team were called in to help.

Spanknebel said that it took about an hour and a half, but they were able to get the woman arranged in a stretcher, and she was taken away by ambulance.

This is the second rescue operation on Mt. Holyoke this month. On May 14, Hadley, South Hadley, and Northampton firefighters had rescued a woman who fell down a ledge on the mountain’s M&M Trail.
