Tips: Insurance for tornado damage

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – On June 1st, 2011 and EF3 tornado left a path of destruction 39 miles long from Westfield to Charlton. Many homes in the tornado’s path were severely damaged or completely destroyed.

Repairing your home or rebuilding it can be extremely expensive. That’s why it’s important to have a home owner’s policy.

“Those forms will automatically include coverage for a wind storm. There’s no apparel for a tornado but anything that happens with a tornado bringing up winds is covered under a home owner’s policy and it also includes coverage for debris removal,” said Steve Brochu the Vice President of Insurance at AAA.

If you live in an apartment you should have apartment insurance because your landlord’s policy only covers damage to the building and not to your property.

In order for damage to your car to be covered you need to have comprehensive coverage.
