Arrest made after chase from Wilbraham to Springfield

WILBRAHAM, Mass. (WWLP) – Wilbraham police have arrested a man who they say led them on a car and foot chase into Springfield.

Police Sgt. Edward Lennon notified 22News that Johnny R. Hallums-Burton, 34, of Springfield, is facing several charges in connection with the incident, which followed a traffic stop on Dumaine Street in Wilbraham Tuesday afternoon.

According to Lennon, around 2:30, an officer had pulled Hallums-Burton over for a motor vehicle violation. In the middle of the stop, Hallums-Burton began to drive away. The officer followed the car as Hallums-Burton crossed into Springfield.

Lennon says the suspect got out of the car on Nantasket Street, near the Lowe’s home improvement store, and began running. Springfield police assisted the Wilbraham officer, and Hallums-Burton was caught and arrested.

He is being charged with refusing to stop for police, giving a false name to a police officer, using a motor vehicle without authority, driving with a revoked license, and is also facing other motor vehicle charges.
