Branches cause power outage in Springfield’s South End

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Dozens of homes lost power in Springfield’s South End, Tuesday night, and it didn’t take long for the power company to figure out what went wrong.

57 homes lost power after some tree branches became entangled in the power lines at Chester and Central Streets just before 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Anthony Bledsoe of Springfield said he’s been after the City to clear branches away. “We asked the City a couple of times to come and chop those branches off from around the wires, but to no avail. Nothing happened.”

Western Massachusetts Electric Company spokeswoman Lisette Andino told 22News the outage was related to the weather, causing the branches to contact the wires.

WMECO restored the power by 8:00 p.m. Tuesday. No one was hurt.
