BRISTOL, R.I. (AP) — Police say they have arrested a man from New Hampshire, and a man from Massachusetts remains in the hospital following a shooting and stabbing involving gang members at a gathering at a Rhode Island state park.
State police have charged 24-year-old Lang Bounama Lek of Manchester, New Hampshire, with firearms and assault offenses. They say the incident at Colt State Park in Bristol resulted from a violent altercation between several members of the Bloods gang who were attending a Memorial Day weekend cookout. It happened about 4:45 p.m. Sunday.
Authorities say Lek was driven away in a car after the melee, but a police officer stopped it on a bridge. A loaded 9 MM semi-automatic handgun was found in the vehicle.
Lek, who suffered stab wounds, and the gunshot victim, 23-year-old Jordan Lyttle of Fall River, Massachusetts, remain hospitalized.
A Rhode Island State Police spokesperson told our Providence sister station, WPRI-TV, that this was an isolated incident, and people should continue enjoying the park.
