Identity of 18 year-old Springfield homicide victim revealed

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP)- Springfield police say an 18 year-old woman died after being shot multiple times late Monday night, but no one has been able to provide a description of the person who shot her.

Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney told 22News that Lenezzia Clarke, 18, of 444 Central Street in Springfield died at Baystate Medical Center shortly after midnight.

Delaney says that officers were called to the area of 33 Oak Street after their Shotspotter system picked up the noise of gunshots at 11:44 Monday night. A group of bystanders told police to go to 550 Union Street, where they found Clarke on the ground in a front doorway, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Police provided first aid and called for an ambulance. The victim was brought to Baystate Medical Center, but died at 12:03 A.M.

The deadly shooting marks the third homicide of 2014 in the city of Springfield.

No arrests have yet been made. Delaney says that police searched the neighborhood for witnesses, and though there were several people on Union Street when police got there, no one has been able to provide a description of the shooter.
