Veterans honored on Memorial Day in Westfield

WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Groups of people marched through Westfield Monday morning in honor of those who died defending the United States.

The Memorial Day services began with a parade, followed by speeches and a ceremony at Parker Memorial Park.

Michael Zyra, of Westfield, says he comes to the Memorial Day ceremony every year and it means a lot to everyone that goes.

“It means that we have a great country and great sacrifices over the years that to give this country the way it is today, that our country is as free as it is,” Zyra said.

After the ceremonies, American Legion Post 124 marched the route in reverse to the post home, where they held additional ceremonies.
