Wilbraham police warn of phone scheme

WILBRAHAM, Mass. (WWLP) – Police in Wilbraham have alerted 22News to a series of recent malicious phone calls to residents.

Wilbraham Police Sgt. Mark Paradise told 22News the elderly are often the target. There’s been at least two calls this week. He said schemers will call either claiming to have captured a relative or trying to impersonate that relative.

The callers then ask that money be sent in order to resolve the situation. Sgt. Paradise said it’s very difficult to trace these numbers.

Residents should be skeptical of any phone call that sounds suspicious.
