Westfield church honors veterans with Memorial Day service

WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Westfield’s Our Lady of Blessed Sacrament held a Memorial Day service in its veteran Victory Garden Sunday.

They retired the old flag, and replaced it with the flag that had draped the coffin of Korean War veteran Henry Fournier. Fournier’s family donated the flag for Sunday’s Memorial Day service.

Fournier’s sister, Annette Schoenlock, said, “I know that he’s in heaven with my parents; they’re happy because it not only represents him, but all the veterans, living and dead.”

Members of the American Legion Post 124 attended, as did the parish Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. Parishioners had created the veterans’ memorial garden through their donations.
