DOVER, N.H. (AP) — The murder trial of a New Hampshire man charged with raping and strangling a college student is shaping up to be a case of “he said, she said” between two former lovers.

Lawyers for Seth Mazzaglia say 19-year-old University of New Hampshire sophomore Lizzi Marriott, of Westborough, Massachusetts, died during consensual rough sex.

But prosecutors say his former girlfriend, Kathryn McDonough, will testify that Mazzaglia raped and killed Marriott at their Dover apartment on Oct. 9, 2012, after a game of strip poker.

Prosecutors say Mazzaglia and McDonough dumped Marriott’s body off Portsmouth’s Peirce Island and into a river that feeds into the Atlantic Ocean.

McDonough agreed to a deal with prosecutors and pleaded guilty to hindering prosecution. She is serving prison time.

Testimony will begin Wednesday.
