“Help Yourself” plants fruit in Northampton

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – It won’t be too long before you’ll be able to pick fruit off the vine at the old Hampshire County Courthouse in downtown Northampton.

A group called “Help Yourself” spent the afternoon Sunday planting on the old courthouse grounds. Everything they plant is meant to be eaten later. This isn’t their first planting experience.

Jessica Tanner told 22News, “It’s all about putting in community gardens all over Northampton in public spaces, all over the pioneer valley, the edibles are available for any community member who wants to pick an apple or pick some grapes.”

Some of what they’re planting includes Asian pear trees and cranberry bushes.
