Car hits home in Ludlow; driver charged, family displaced

LUDLOW, Mass. (WWLP) – A family of about 8 people, including a few children, won’t be able to stay in their home Saturday night after it was hit by a speeding car.

Ludlow Police Sgt. Daniel Valadas told 22News that just after 8 o’clock Saturday night they received more than half a dozen 911Car into house 052414 calls for a car that had crashed into a home at 382 Holyoke Street.

Sgt. Valadas said a man from Holyoke was driving the gray 2014 Ford Focus in the Southbound lane, when he crossed the median into oncoming traffic, went onto the sidewalk, hit a guardrail, went down an embankment, rolled over and crashed into the home. The car also hit a boat that was being stored next to the home.

When the family inside the home heard the collision, they ran out and pulled the injured driver from the car.

The driver was conscious and alert and taken by paramedics to Baystate Medical Center.

Sgt. Valadas said speed was a factor in the crash.

Sgt. Valadas also told 22News the driver will be charged with speeding and reckless operation of a motor vehicle.

A building inspector will determine whether or not it’s safe to pull the car out of the home. Sgt. Valadas said it caused extensive damage to the foundation.
