SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (WWLP) – Western Massachusetts’ boating season got off to a soggy start on the Connecticut River on the Friday of this Memorial Day Weekend.
They got off to a late start setting up the docks at Brunelle’s Marina in South Hadley because the river had been running high. They had the dock system set up by Friday night. All they need now are the boats.
22News saw a lot of empty slips, as recreational boaters wait for better weather. It poured Friday night, causing flash flooding in some Western Massachusetts communities.
The Goncalves family left their boat home in Ludlow Friday night, and had a tail-gate picnic instead of eating on their boat as they’d hoped.
“I mean you wait all winter for this weekend and then… this is two years in a row that we’re on the trailer so. Mother Nature. It’s boating, you know,” Christopher Goncalves said.
Goncalves told 22News the family’s new plan is to try and put their boat in the water Saturday afternoon or Sunday in time for when the weather improves Monday.
