eBay warns customers after security breach

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – eBay is asking its customers to reset their passwords after hackers broke into the online retail site.

The company said hackers now have possession of customer names, account passwords, email addresses, mailing addresses, phone numbers and birth dates.

Bay Path College cyber-security professor Larry Snyder told 22News there are some ways you can protect yourself before and after a cyber-attack.

Snyder said, “Different passwords for different accounts; don’t use the same password. And just being careful about the information you share with these businesses; if it’s not needed for the transaction, if it’s not needed for the account, then don’t provide it.”

eBay says there is no evidence that there was any unauthorized activity, and there’s no sign that any financial or credit card information was stolen.
