Victim in deadly crash on Rt. 9 in Hadley identified

HADLEY, Mass. (WWLP) – One person has died and another person has been injured in a two-car accident on Route 9 in Hadley Thursday morning.

hadley crash 1According to Michelle Richotte, assistant to D.A. David Sullivan, the accident happened near 73 Russell Street around 10:00 A.M. She says that it appears a car heading westbound crossed the center line and struck the driver’s side of a car that was heading eastbound on Route 9.

The Northwestern District Attorney office told 22News that the driver of the car that was heading westbound, 57-year-old Joseph Arruda of Bristol, Rhode Island, died at the crash site, while the driver of the other car was taken to Cooley Dickinson Hospital, and is expected to survive.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation by the Hadley Police Department, the Mass. State Police Detectives Unit assigned to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office, the Mass. State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
