SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – “Selfie” has officially made its way into the dictionary.
“Selfie” joins 150 other words and phrases including hashtag, catfish, and spoiler alert in the 11th edition of Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary. Editor At Large Peter Sokolowski told 22News many of the new words show the impact of online connectivity to our lives.
“Selfie is one of the new words in the dictionary and since the president of the united states took his own selfie, we think that is a word that’s here to stay,” Sokolowski said.
Other words added this year include crowdfunding, fracking and turducken. That’s a boneless chicken stuffed into a boneless duck stuffed into a boneless turkey. For a look at the other words added to the dictionary, click here.
